The fire that consumed over 7,000 acres in the foothills of the Bridger Mountains quickly destroyed not only forest land and farm crops, but homes.  Just as quickly, the greater Bozeman community responded.  Countless first responders, both volunteer and professional firefighters, smoke jumpers, hotshots, search & rescue teams, law enforcement personnel and citizen volunteers with trailers, trucks and skills battled the fire and evacuated residents, pets, livestock and horses together.  Due to this outstanding community effort, no lives were lost to the fire, but despite the immediate actions of all involved, many in our community lost everything. Rebuilding the residential, agricultural and recreational infrastructure will continue to require our community to work together.

Greater Gallatin United Way and One Valley Community Foundation, in cooperation with the Southwest Montana COAD, created the Bridger Foothill Fire Relief Fund in response to the community requests.

The Fund provided a reliable and recognized single location for financial donations and streamlined the allocation of funds to individuals and families impacted by the fire and the organizations serving our community both during the immediate emergency and in the weeks to come.

The Fund first focused on providing funding for immediate needs such as shelter, meals and clothing, personal and farming supplies as well as mental and emotional support for those who lost their homes and/or livelihood as a result of the fire.  The Fund also provided financial support to the first responders and other agencies that have depleted their resources and supplies in the effort to contain the fire and/or protect and serve those most impacted. The Fund will work with the community to identify and address the longer term impacts of the fire, both for individuals and the community as a whole.
