Several hundred supporters gathered for the annual luncheon. Governor Steve Bullock was the keynote speaker. He focused on early-childhood education.
Bullock said, "I really appreciate what the Greater Gallatin United Way has done for our earliest learners. And in addition, I know you do so much more."
"I mean you're making sure that kids have a safe place to go and a constructive place after school. You're making sure that they have some food in their tummies. But you've also really put a focus on early learning, what can happen from zero to five," he said.
The organization also honored several of its donors. Joe and Janet Colombo of Colombo's Pizza & Pasta received the Community Impact Award for their loyalty and generosity as a small business who gives annually. J & H Office Equipment received the Live United Award for their steadfast support and in recognition of their generous employees who give through payroll deduction. ATK/Blackhawk was given the Mission Award for embracing philanthropy and integrating it into their corporate culture via their Wellness Committee. Finally, Joe Billion was honored for his $50,000 donation for the next two years brings his total contribution to the United Way to $1 million. Joe Billion is the owner of the Billion Auto Group.
Billion said, "When you give money to charities, you want to make sure that you're giving to a good charity that watches your money and I really truly believe that Greater Gallatin United Way is the most efficient way to help the most amount of people."
