Turn up the Radio

kidsLINK Summer Camps may be over but the memories and friendships made will last a lifetime. More than 250 children spent the summer enjoying weekly themed lessons filled with laughter, education, and enrichment. KidsLINK summer camps offered a wide range of activities where children were able to explore individual interests, build friendships and confidence, teach teamwork, have new experiences, get their bodies moving, and build mental health skills.

The KGLT Kids Songwriting Summer Camp offered kids, aged 5-13, the unique opportunity to explore various aspects of music from radio production to songwriting. Campers also had the opportunity to produce their own radio segment and DJ live over the KGLT station. The kids started the week learning about simple chord progressions followed by basic music theory on the keyboard. Local musicians, including Brian Kassay, who led the camp, worked one-on-one with each student to help produce and record songs. Then the campers got to work perfecting their song and stage presence to perform. The week ended in a live show where campers performed their songs for an audience of their peers and parents. During this performance, the KGLT radio station recorded the songs and played them over the radio station.

We are incredibly proud of the campers and their impressive performances –you may want to start collecting autographs of these future superstars now.

Thank you to KGLT and Brian Kassay who made this camp possible and for coming together to provide these opportunities for youth to succeed. In addition to working as a professional musician, Brian is a certified teacher who has worked in the Bozeman School District for over 8 years.

Our summer camps offered unique experiences to develop lifelong skills, have fun while learning, teach resiliency and teamwork, foster growth and self-esteem, and support healthy living. But the camps are also about offering working parents access to affordable, safe, and enriching all-day childcare during the summer months. All help to allow parents to remain in the workforce and children to remain safe. Our kidsLINK summer camps are about partnerships, collaboration, and a community coming together to ensure everyone everywhere have the opportunities to thrive.
