Dolly Parton's Imagination Library (DPIL) is a book gifting program that mails brand new, free, specially selected, high-quality books to children from birth to their 5th birthday.

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library started in 1995 to benefit the children in her home county - Sevier County, TN.

Dolly's vision was to foster a love of reading among her home county's preschool children and their families by providing them with the gift of a specially selected book each month. By mailing high quality age appropriate books directly to their homes, she wanted children to be excited about books and to feel the magic that books can create.

Her goal was to ensure that all children had the opportunity to succeed early on in school, regardless of family income.

The program expanded nationwide and then to 4 other countries. 25 years later the program has mailed over 147 million books and currently serves 1.7 million children.

Reading problems can be challenging to fix when discovered in elementary school.

Did you know?

37% of children entering kindergarten in Bozeman School District #7 lack foundational literacy skills

Fewer than half of U.S. children ages 5 and under are read to every day, placing them at risk for reading delays and school failure.

Reading aloud to young children is the single most effective thing parents can do to help prepare their children to succeed in school.

$30 covers the cost of the program for a child for a full year—that’s 12 books mailed to them directly!

Our goal is to grow the program to cover 4,700 children in Gallatin County and close the learning gap!

The program is entirely funded by donations. Generous startup funds were provided to launch the program.

BIG NEWS! We secured the funding to expand so Park County children can benefit from this wonderful early literacy program. Children are eligible to enroll up till their 5th birthday. We have a dedicated group of Park County residents/volunteers raising awareness and funds to sustain the program and we could use your help. We need to raise another $10,000. This amount will help cover postage for books for five years.
