MSU Students ‘Hyalite’ Thanksgiving with Afterschool Program

Agriculture Education students at Montana State University will present a fun-filled Thanksgiving program with an emphasis on learning about where food comes from.  The program was designed for the Eagles after school program at Hyalite Elementary School on November 17th from 3:30 to 7:30PM.

Kids’ activities and the educational program will start at 3:30PM at Hyalite Elementary School.  Family activities will begin at 5:30PM with a traditional Thanksgiving meal followed by cupcake decorating and a family project.

Montana State University students created this program as part of a class with guidance from Assistant Professor of Agricultural Education, Dr. Shannon Arnold.  When asked about the goal of the program, Arnold said, “This program gives experience to the MSU Ag Ed students who are planning to work in community education and it helps the youth understand how we are all connected to agriculture.”

Montana State University students are working in collaboration with the Eagles after school program (a Greater Gallatin United Way KidsLINK program), Gallatin County’s 4-H Mentoring Partnership, Thrive/CAP, and Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Montana State University’s Agricultural Education department focuses on preparing students with the knowledge and skills required to teach and inform communities about agriculture.
