Greater Gallatin United Way kidsLINK Afterschool & Lights On Afterschool Celebration 2013

As you may know, October 17 is Lights On Afterschool, a nationwide celebration of afterschool programs across the country.  Greater Gallatin United Way kidsLINK Programs will be celebrating throughout the month.

It is also a day of advocacy – to raise our voices to help increase access to high-quality afterschool and summer programs for all students who need them.  Nationwide, an estimated 15 million children and youth do not have access to enriching, quality learning experiences outside of the regular school day.

Last year, United Way Worldwide convened thought leaders and content experts (including local United Ways) for a National Summit on Out-of-School Time. The Summit was a huge success and we hope to once again call attention to the importance of afterschool and summer learning opportunities to support student success this week.

The Afterschool Alliance has compiled a list of ways that you can engage in this effort and increase visibility for the issue (see below). Also, here is a list of United Way tweets that you can use as part of your communications this Thursday, October 17th.
