Bozeman Strategic Plan and Your Input on Safe Healthy People is Needed

As you know, Bozeman is currently working on a 20-30 year strategic plan utilizing the consulting firm, HDR.  Over the past 3-4 months, they’ve held community discussions around the following 6 vision areas:

  • Engaged Communities
  • Well Planned City
  • Sustainable Environment
  • Innovative Economy
  • Education, Creativity & Culture
  • Safe, Healthy People

Greater Gallatin United Way, along with other representatives from non-profit organizations, fire department, police department, Bozeman Health, Health Dept., etc. attended the community conversation/work group around “Safe Healthy People” last night.  We learned that, of all the vision areas, there’s been very little community input, conversation around this vision area.  Based on HDR’s experience, this is because it’s not a top priority or major concern in the community.  In general, Bozeman feels good about:

  • Socioeconomic diversity
  • Affordability
  • Public Safety
  • Community Health
  • Community Resilience (in light of natural or man-made disasters)
  • Human and Social Services
  • Outdoor Lifestyles and Recreation
  • Other

Our concern is that this can drastically change in 20-30 years if we don’t plan for those that currently live here, those that will move here, and those that regularly come here and rely on Bozeman for services and/or employment.  In addition, we live in a wonderful community, but we often don’t “see” the real human struggles that are here, whether it’s mental health, socioeconomic diversity, drug/alcohol abuse, etc.  However, they do exist.  Without input on these topics and planning for prevention and education, what is currently viewed by many as “tolerable” or “under control”, will grow.   If you haven’t done so already, please complete the survey at  www.surveymonkey.com/r/BozemanStrategicPlan and share give your input on the vision area, Safe Healthy People.

Community is people.  We encourage you to provide input.  Thank you for your time and attention.

Regards,
Greater Gallatin United Way
