9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance Highlights

Greater Gallatin United Way thanks their MTCC VISTAs!

Thank you for all of your commitment and dedication during 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance. Together, we truly made a positive impact across Montana.

Here are some highlights from MTCC VISTAs across the state:

  • The Great Roll Out was another success! We collected over $2,600 worth of cash/in-kind donations, including 1,253 toiletry items! These donations will benefit the Big Sky Youth Home in Bozeman and the YWCA in Missoula.
  • In Red Lodge, AmeriCorps VISTAs organized Hearts and Minds, an event where veterans and EMS presented to middle school students on the importance of service and patriotism, it was followed by a writing and art assignment.
  • In Livingston, AmeriCorps VISTAs and RSVP members organized Veteran's Awareness booths at the local Farmer's Market. RSVP, Operation Fallen Soldier, Warriors in Quiet Waters and the Color Guard were all in attendance and raised awareness about their individual organizations.  22 high school students helped organize and work the booths at the market.  They provided 52 free meals for heroes at the market.  Heroes included veterans, active service, firefighters, police officers and EMTs.
  • In Helena, AmerCorps VISTAs and community members organized 9/11 Disaster Preparedness Outreach and Awareness Event at the Helena College. They provided totes with informational material and checklist for an emergency kit.

Thanks again to all who participated on 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance.
