MSU Education Students & Greater Gallatin United Way After-School Program

Agriculture education students at MSU-Bozeman created a program to help children learn where Thanksgiving meals in Montana come from as part of a class taught by Shannon Arnold, assistant professor of agricultural education. The program, designed for an Greater Gallatin United Way kidsLINK after-school program at Hyalite Elementary School, also included information about healthy nutrition choices and concluded with a family dinner and cupcake decorating. Prof. Arnold said the program "gives experience to the MSU Ag Ed students who are planning to work in community education, and it helps the youth understand how we are all connected to agriculture." The students worked in collaboration with the Eagles after-school program (a Greater Gallatin United Way KidsLINK program), Gallatin County's 4-H Mentoring Partnership, Thrive/CAP, and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
